Day Twenty-eight
My employer is a non-profit professional association so small there's no office. For the entire ten years I've been working for the nurse practitioners, I've been a virtual worker, a "telecommuter" to an office that doesn't exist. I work from home and I have loved every minute of it. It takes a few tricks to keep distractions at bay. Some time ago I separated my emails into three accounts, one for all things personal, another for tai chi business, and a third account for work. I need tools that keep me working when I'm working.
I'd bet I'm more productive than lots of people because when I work, I work. A few years ago, maybe when Google launched Chrome, I decided to employ three different browsers for each of my roles. Since I spend most of my computer time doing work tasks I chose my favorite, Firefox, for all things work related. All my work bookmarks and favorites are right there. The websites I access on a regular basis are all compatible with Firefox. I use Internet Explorer for my "light" tai chi computing needs because it's my least favorite browser. Chrome is where I take care of my personal web activities, Pandora, this blog, Ted talks, etc. I love the lack of need for a Google search box, just one place to type my URL or search terms. I will admit to using IE for personal banking, the last time I checked those sites don't act right in Chrome.
When people learn I work from home, their response is usually something like "I'd never be disciplined enough to do that." I always wonder why they aren't giving themselves credit for being disciplined enough to get up every morning and go to work.
Intentions check-in: I slept late (6:20) and don't have time for what I really want to report so I'll save it for an upcoming post. I can say I did my dailies and I'm happy that my "money meeting" resulted in a spending plan for 2012 that meets my needs. That feels good.
Hey, it's been 4 weeks, time flies!
